We are planning to 'relaunch' Dreamfall Chapters when Book Five comes out (and of course this won't affect anyone who's already bought or backed the game) and replace the season pass with some sort of 'complete edition'. And then, next autumn, plans are (tentatively) to release a, uh, let's call it 'ultimate edition', where we go back and do all those little tweaks, fixes and updates (even including new and revised dialogue and puzzles) we've always wanted to do to make the game glitter & shine. That version will be our legacy.

The 'complete edition' (not saying that will be the name; it's not a great name) will be the game we Kickstarter'ed. We promised a 10-12 hour game: we currently have (depending on who's playing) a 14-24 hour game…and there's still one episode to go. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that we've at LEAST doubled the length (and size) of our crowdfunding promise. Some things have changed and been altered along the way, of course. Some things have been lost, other things (many things) gained. But that's what happens when you make a game. Nothing is set in stone until the game is done. And it's not done yet!
The 'complete edition' will contain all the in-game Kickstarter rewards, such as backers-as-NPCs, Doppelgängers, shout-outs etc. Stuff we just haven't had time to put in yet. It will definitely be complete.
We have no idea what an 'ultimate edition' will contain yet. We plan to revisit parts of the game to make it better. Some bits will be shortened, some (smaller) bits added. The dialogue will finally get an editing pass. Some art assets will be replaced, lights and effects tweaked, characters remodelled: it's going to cost quite a bit of money to do this. We have to make that money back in some way.
I hope we can provide this ULTIMATE version of the game to all of our backers as a bonus reward, because you/they made this happen. And we hope we can sell it to lots and lots of people so that we can make our money back and keep creating more games. We'll just have to figure out the balance here between giving out things for free and generating a sustainable business.
Like I said, all of this is pure conjecture at this stage, but I'd be curious to hear what you guys think. Would you be willing to pay extra for a game upgrade at some point — above and beyond what's been promised in our Kickstarter campaign and in the marketing blurb on Steam/GOG/Humble — or would you expect to get all future content updates and upgrades for free, regardless?
