This is great news, but a bit very confusing after the interview published on KGN
http://www.krawall.de/artikel.php?s=c&a ... 22&seite=3
In that interview (dated October 3) Simon stated that he wasn’t involved at all in the design of Simon IV?

Thanks for your reply, I understand your English very well. Yes, I did read on this pages that Mike and Simon were both involved, but the KGN interview - 3-10-2006 - states otherwise. And both can’t be true.

You say that the KGN states an opinion. not a fact. But it looks to me just an interview? :

“Wie bist du denn derzeit an der Produktion beteiligt?
Simon Woodroffe: Gar nicht.

Krawall.de: Das heißt, du leistest derzeit gar keinen Beitrag zum neuen „Simon the Sorcerer“?
Simon Woodroffe: Nein, kein Stück.”

And on the same page:

Krawall.de: Haben Sie bislang einen signifikanten Beitrag zu „Simon 4“ geleistet?
Mike Woodroffe: Nein, aber es ist geplant.

Or must I understand that was fake interview? If it isn’t, there’s something very strange going on.

If one of the interviews is fake, it's this one here because it is a PR interview sent out to the press by the publisher. Indeed the contradictory statements in the interviews are pretty confusing. To me it seems that after the KGN interview Silver Style asked the Woodroffes to participate in the project, although they already claimed before that they were involved. Now I think it's hard to know the truth based on those different statements. At least, the Woodroffes seem to be involved now, otherwise the publisher wouldn't send out this interview together with a photo of Mike Woodroffe. Still it's hard to say how they are involved exactly.

Well. I thought I was paranoid, but glad to hear that you find it also confusing. I thought the “Pressemitteiling” (you are quite right there) sounded like cleaning up the mess after the KGN interview.
And if the KGN interview was correct, it can’t be the case that Simon and Mike are seriously involved, as that interview was from last month - or is the date wrong? - and the game is planned to be released next February (if I am correct).
Pity though if they aren’t seriously involved, as I think it will be very hard if not impossible to compete with the excellent scripting and humour by Simon Woodroffe.

well, what really counts is that the woodroffes are involved now. even if the second interview was posted due to marketing reasons. i doubt that sse is releasing false information again. and i think there's still enough time for the woodroffes to put their know-how and humor into the game. as you can deduce from the screenshots the game looks like an alpha. so there's plenty of time till the release next year in february. i trust sse and the woodroffes to create a new simon game which will be as good as the first two titles or even better!

Your are very optimistic. Like Das Jan said, it is hard to say how they are involved now. If it is indeed intended that they are involved in a serious way, which I very much doubt. And if there are indeed only 2 ½ months left (in fact less of course, for marketing and distribution have to do their job too). I fear they can’t contribute anymore in a significant way and that they will be only able to suggest minor changes. What “really counts” in my opinion is the missed opportunity, and, unlike you, I fear that because of this the new game won’t be able to compete with the first two titles. But who knows.

we'll see.. i mean for us it's rly hard to say what's going on behind the scenes... so we can just wait and see when simon is released.

however there will be a big problem for sse... if the game is creepy everyone will say it's because they didn't involve the woodroffes as much as they could have (no one can tell how much they are (were) involved). but if the game is as good as it looks like and all the riddles are well done, simon has it's incomparable humor...everyone is going to put the woodroffes up front... saying "see it's because they worked on the game, without them it wouldn't be possible to create such a good simon game"(rly? who knows? anyone has supernatural abilities?)... and then nobody will even care about any interview which was released before the release...it's kinda tricky.. but as i said before... we can speculate as much as we want... it doesn't change anything ;)...

but still no doubt, everyone's right by saying that it can only help the development of simon 4 to involve the woodroffes.. who questions this should step by the nuthouse.

you can transport this to any game...what counts is the final result.

btw just one question.. why are you talkin in english? I assume you can speak german very well since you read the interview in german? or did i miss sth? :)

Considering the fact that, in spite of both brothers' involvement, Simon 3D became quite crappy (sorry), I doubt that there is a straight correlation between game quality and the involvement of the original authors.

At what amount the Woodroofes' are involved or not, doesn't matter for me, if only the game is good. If Simon 4 will be a worthy successor, I'll buy it, if not, I won't (or at least I'll wait until it's cheap enough. ;))

Of course, Silver Style should have been more honest and not pretending a great collaboration, if they only involve the original authors for publicity effects and the involvement is limited to the permission, that the Woodroofes' can tell their opinion, which may or may not be taken into consideration by Silver Style.

Well, despite this confusing interview tohobohu, I still hope Simon 4 will be a successful successor. I simply hope Silver Style's developers do a better job than their publicity section. ;)
